Marci Harris is a former Congressional staffer, and founder and CEO of POPVOX. Her “first startup was a town,” as she led Jackson, TN’s rebuilding efforts following a devastating 2004 tornado. She attended law school at the University of Memphis (J.D.) and the American University Washington College of Law (LL.M), and worked on Capitol Hill covering tax, trade, and health for a senior Ways and Means member. Harris was recognized as one of Fast Company magazine’s Top 100 Most Creative People in Business (2012), Tribeca Film Festival Award for Creative Disruption (2012), a DC’s “Tech Titans” by Washingtonian magazine (2013), and one of the legal innovators in the 2013 “Fastcase 50.”

Yoky Matsuoka at TEDxSandHillRdWomen
Yoky Matsuoka, currently VP of Technology at Nest Labs, grew up assuming she would become a professional tennis player but ended up with a Ph.D. from MIT. She became a professor at Carnegie Mellon and later at the University of Washington developing robotic devices that are controlled by brain signals. This work led her to the MacArthur Award and being named one of “The Brilliant Ten” in Popular Science Magazine and one of the “Top 10 Women to Watch in 2010” by Barbie. Yoky was one of the three founding members of Google X before taking her current position at Nest.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
